Homework Policy

Homework is an important part of students’ learning. At Oakbank School, we want to ensure that students take time to consolidate and embed their learning through re-visiting and re-learning topics which are studied in class.

Knowledge Organisers are used to support students with their self-quizzing, as well as revision for end-of-term assessments. In addition, we use the Sparx digital platform.

Self-Quizzing

Daily self-quizzing is an important part of your child’s homework routine.

Each evening, students will be expected to complete a short self-quizzing task based on their Homework Booklet, which contains important information from their subjects. They will answer 10 questions in their Quiz Booklet, provided to help embed key knowledge and improve long-term.

Memory through regular retrieval practice. There is self-quizzing for all subjects to deepen learning across the whole curriculum. This daily, written homework habit will be foundational in building effective revision techniques for your child in preparation for Key Stage 4.

Students should complete their self-quizzing in their Independent Learning Book each day. The booklet is pre-printed according to a chosen schedule, and dated, so students do not need to remember which subject they need on each day. This work will be checked each morning by their form tutor, who will monitor completion, effort, and presentation. House points will be awarded for consistent effort and excellent presentation.

Sparx

Sparx is an online learning platform designed to help students achieve highly in English, Maths and Science. It is widely used by the most successful schools in the country.

Each Sparx homework takes around 40 minutes to an hour to complete.
