Why is it important to study Religious Education?

Religious Education informs us of the way the world is today by looking at diverse faiths, ethics, and philosophies. Through the study of RE, you will get a chance to experience the awe-inspiring fact that moral and religious frameworks built the present, and we build the future, by studying a broad range of human beliefs and values.

What are the skills and knowledge you will learn in RE?

In RE, you will develop critical thinking, deal with complex ethical dilemmas, challenge previous perceptions, and access the philosophical ideas that will help you understand who you are and where you come from. We will explore key religious teachings—with a specific focus on Christianity and Islam for the AQA specification—and study moral issues from around the world, so you can build an awareness of the wider world.

What are the pathways and opportunities that studying RE will open both at school and beyond?

RE has many transferable skills which prepare us to challenge the origin of ethical arguments and determine their value to draw balanced conclusions. This is important because it will help you create your own informed opinions about the moral issues you encounter and build on the lessons learnt from religious and secular traditions.
